Why Are Eye Exams Important?

Having an eye examination is very important for all ages and health levels. You eye doctors does more than just checking to see if you need glasses or contacts.

He or she would also determine your prescription for eyeglasses or contact lenses, as well as checking for common eye diseases. This examination also includes testing if your eyes coordinate together as a team and would even evaluate your eyes as an indicator of your overall health.

As early warning for disease

Adults should have their eyes tested to maintain their prescriptions updated, and to check for early signs of any eye diseases like glaucoma.

For normal development of children

Chidren should also take eye exams as it plays an important role in normal development. Why? Because a person’s vision is closely linked to the learning process. Children who have trouble seeing or interpreting objects that they see tend to have trouble with their schoolwork.

Do not assume that children would complain of poor vision because they do not have an idea what a "normal" eyesight is supposed to look like. If your child has been performing poorly in school or is having a learning disability, be sure to have his or her eyes examined.

Checking for various eye problems

Aside from eye diseases, your eye doctor also checks your eyes for signs of vision problems like refractive error, nearsightedness, cross eyes, farsightedness, uneven eye presciption, and blindness.
