Teen Skin Care

Taking care of your skin should be top priority beginning adolescence.  It is during these times when the whole body undergoes a lot of physical and hormonal changes, and your skin is not spared.  This could be your year when you get your first pimple, or when your face becomes more oily than usual.

Keeping your skin healthy as early as your teenage years avoids skin care problems later on, and they do not have to take a lot of time or money.

Choose skin care products that are meant for your skin type

Your skin is totally different from your parent, so do not ever borrow facial cleansers or washes from your parents.  You need to look for products that would work perfectly to your skin.  It may take several purchases and experimentation, but the end result would be worth it.

Use sun screen

No matter what time of the day it is, apply an ample amount of sun screen on your face and body.  You have heard a million times how sun screen can protect you from skin aging and even skin cancer, so do not ignore this tip.

It may not be that big of a deal during your teens, but you would be thankful with this tip in 15 years time.  Use sunscreen with a minimum SPF 15, and do not forget to reapply.

Never use soap to wash your face

Soap strips off your skin’s excess oils, but at the same time leaves your skin really dry.

To wash your face, look for a gel-based cleanser if your face is prone to oiliness.  Make sure to wash your face after waking up and before going to bed.

Never sleep with your make-up on

Keeping your make-up for too long, even while sleeping, could cause your pores to be blocked by fine make-up powder.  Remember to keep your face clean before sleeping in order to remove all the dirt your face has gathered during the day.

Moisturize your face

Just because your face is oily does not mean you should stay away from the moisturizer.  If you have oily skin, choose an oil-free moisturizer that you can put on after you cleanse.  For very oily skin, you may choose to just moisturize in the morning.

Apply a mask and exfoliate weekly

A face mask deeply cleanses your pores, exfoliate removes the top layer of your skin to give way for a much younger skin.

Choose a clay mask over other types of facial mask, while you need to choose an exfoliate that has gentle scrubbing beads.  Avoid over scrubbing your face to avoid further breakouts.
