Coping with Arthritis Pain

The pain associated with arthritis can be quite debilitating. Being able to cope up with it becomes an important part of daily life for people suffering from arthritis. Here are some of the ways to cope up with arthritis pain.

Medication

There are several medications now available for arthritis pain relief. Over the counter medications include acetaminophen, ibuprofen or naproxen. Acetaminophen as well as aspirin can be used to treat occasional arthritic pain that may be caused by certain physical activity. Ibuprofen and naproxen are used not only to reduce the pain but also the inflammation that may come with arthritis.

Before taking any type of medication for the arthritis pain, it may be better to consider rest as a primary option. Sometimes the occasional pain usually can be relieved simply by resting. You must also be aware that taking medications may also come with certain side effects, no matter how relatively safe they might be. It is important to talk with your doctor about the medication options for arthritis pain before you use them to avoid any serious complications.

Daily Routines

One way to cope up with arthritis pain is knowing your own limitations especially when doing physical activities. You need to be able to pace yourself when doing something so as not to overuse your joints that may cause pain. It also helps to adjust your position ever so often to avoid getting stiff.

Try doing certain joint exercises to help work out the muscles in your hands, legs and feet. You can also try stretching them, shaking and bending them once in a while to get them working. Before you go to sleep in the evenings, you might also want to do some gentle exercises for your joints. Doing so will help them feel less stiff in the morning when you wake up.
