Two of them- docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA)- are known to be abundant in fish oil. Plant-based omega-3 fatty acids like those from flax seeds and vegetable oils is mainly alpha-lineolinic acid (ALA). DHA and EPA are known to be the more beneficial of the omega-3 fatty acids. ALA is converted by the body into EPA only is small amounts.
