Having a healthy heart is important for a healthy life. While it may be considered durable and efficient, the type of lifestyle you follow can have a significant impact on how it functions over time. Just like any other organ, it is also prone to certain risks. Here are some tips to help you maintain a healthy heart.

Monitor Your Pulse

Your pulse rate can help indicate your heart health. Try to take your pulse rate each morning before you get out of bed. Take note of your beats per minute. It should be at around or below 70 bpm. If the beats rise for a week or more, have your heart checked out by your doctor.

Get Enough Sleep But Don’t Overdo It

Sleep can help your heart recover. Studies show that people who constantly lack sleep have around half as much risk of heart attacks as those who get sufficient sleep regularly. But it is also important not to get too much sleep. People who regularly sleep for more than 10 hours have an increased risk of developing heart disease.

Exercise Regularly

Cardiovascular exercise can help boost your heart health. You can decrease your heart attack risk by around half if you maintain regular cardio exercise two to three days per week.

Learn To Breathe Deeply

Deep breathing can also help your heart by lowering your systolic blood pressure. Taking long slow breaths can lower systolic blood pressure rate by as much as four mmHg in a span of minutes. Some research even indicates that practicing deep breathing exercises can help lower blood pressure over time.
