Common Habits That Does Damage To Your Teeth

Some people put different levels of value on their teeth. Some care for it for functional purposes while others go for the aesthetic. No matter what your purpose may be, it is always important to take good care of your set of pearly whites. Good dental hygiene ensures that you have a good, strong set of teeth that will last you a lifetime. You won’t miss you have it until you’ve lost it. So it is better to always take good care of your teeth by following good dental habits. But certain habit you unkowingly do may sometimes do damage to your teeth. Here are some of the common ones.

Teeth Grinding

Some people never think twice about grinding their teeth as a habit. Aside from being a sign of stress as well as a result of certain sleeping habits. It can cause gradual wear and tear into your teeth that can damage it. A mouth guard during your sleep can prevent your teeth from grinding with each other during sleep.

Ice Chewing

Some people find chewing ice as fun. Trying to crack a big chunk of ice into mouth-sized pieces can take quite a bite sometimes. There are times when the bite can be so strong as to cause damage to your teeth. The ice can even sometimes chip or crack your tooth. The ice can also irritate your gums that can make it sensitive later on.

Eating Hard Candy

Candy itself can be bad for your teeth because of the high amount of sugar they contain. This also includes taking cough drops, even if they are being prescribed for a sore thoat or nagging cough. If ever you eat a lot of hard candy, make sure that you brush your teeth afterwards to prevent the sugar from collecting into the gaps and fissures in your teeth and cause damage.

Drinking Soda

If you have a habit of drinking soda, then prepare for your teeth going bad if you don’t take the time to take care of it. Aside from having too much sugar content, sodas also contain phosphoric and citric acids, which can eat away the tooth enamel. Regular soda drinking can eventually cause your tooth enamel to wear out and expose your teeth to decay and damage.
